About Our Organization

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a volunteer and donor driven organization that helps vulnerable children beat the odds and break negative cycles. Funding is used to conduct background checks on volunteers to ensure child safety; and provide ongoing support for children, families and volunteers to build and sustain long-lasting relationships. Big Brothers Big Sisters is proven to improve children’s odds for succeeding in school, behaving nonviolently, and avoiding drugs and alcohol.

Kids with a mentor are 52% less likely to skip school, 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs, and 27% less likely to use alcohol. Our children are searching for role models in their everyday lives, and the fact is that each child has a mentor – it’s just that in many cases, it’s not the right one.

This year Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee is celebrating forty-one years of serving Middle Tennessee’s children with a mentor. We have continued to honor our mission to make a positive difference in the lives of children in need, and to assist them in achieving their highest potential by facilitating professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with a committed volunteer.

In 2008, over 2,200 Middle Tennessee children were served by our programs. Part of the Nashville Youth Opportunity Center, the administrative offices for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee are located in the Midtown Millworks Building at 1704 Charlotte Avenue, Suite 130, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.

Diamond Rio started their relationship with Big Brothers Big Sisters in 1996 and continues to be National Spokespersons for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
